Helpful tips and extra information!

How to calculate FDR (final drive ratio)

Internal gear ratio X drive gear ratio = FDR

Spur gear / pinion gear = Drive gear ratio

TT-02 Specs

Internal gear ratio = 2.6

Stock Spur Gear – 68T

Kyosho Fazer Specs

Internal gear ratio = 3.07

Stock Spur Gear – 68T

Stock pinion gear – 32T

Tech inspections

The Race Director has the right to inspect vehicles at any point throughout the race day.  If a racer is caught intentionally cheating, they may be removed from racing.  If you have questions about rules or guidelines, please ask.

Transponders

As we use the MyLaps timing system, those transponders can be mounted anywhere on the chassis.

Marshaling

Everyone is expected to marshal (work the course) after their race.  Once your race is complete, please set down your controller and car and report to a designated station around the track to flip cars.  Close-toed shoes are recommended and keep an eye on racing, not your phone or side conversations.  If you are physically unable to perform marshal duties, please find someone to take your place or let the Race Director know and they will assign someone.

Race format

We run two 5-minute qualifiers and a 6-minute main event.  Your qualifier results decide your starting spot in the main event.  Your final race position matches your finish in the main event.

This is my first race, what should I expect?

Attending your first race can be very intimidating!  Below are some tips concerning all aspects of race day.  And please ask questions when you arrive if you have any!

Gear and Pit setup

  • Shade & Seating: A canopy, folding table, and chair are highly recommended. Parking lots offer zero shade, and asphalt radiates heat.
  • Pit Weights: Bring weights or sandbags for your canopy. Asphalt means you cannot stake it down, and sudden wind gusts can launch an unsecured tent into vehicles or the track.
  • Power Supply: An inverter generator or heavy-duty battery bank is ideal. Extension cords are smart to pack just in case the organizers provide a central power drop.
  • Race Essentials: You need your RC car, transmitter, and a transponder. Pack spare AAA/AA batteries for your transmitter!
  • Battery Management: Bring at least 3 lipo batteries and a fast charger. You will need to charge at high storage rates to keep up with the schedule between qualifiers and mains.
  • Tire Care: Parking lot traction changes constantly as dust blows in and track temperatures rise. Bring spare tires, tire cleaner (or simple green), and a rag to wipe off asphalt grit between rounds.
  • Basic Tool Kit: Bring hex drivers, a wheel wrench, and basic spare parts (arms, hubs, steering links) likely to break during a crash against hard parking lot barriers.
  • Personal Comfort: Pack plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen, and sunglasses. Spending several hours on open asphalt can be draining.

Driving and Racing

  • Learn the Surface: Parking lots are much looser than dedicated tracks. Use practice time to test your braking zones and feel how much grip you have.
  • Prioritize Clean Laps: Focus on smooth, consistent lines rather than absolute top speed. Staying off the boards and avoiding crashes will automatically place you ahead of faster, erratic drivers.
  • Safe Yielding: Hold a predictable line when faster cars or the race leaders approach from behind. Move out of the primary racing line safely on a straightaway or wide corner rather than panic-swerving.

Track Etiquette

  • Marshalling Duty: Your most important job after your race is to immediately marshal. Walk to your assigned spot, put on a safety vest if provided, and never look at your phone.
  • Parking Lot Safety: When marshalling, watch for oncoming traffic before stepping onto the track to flip a car. Asphalt offers less traction for braking, and cars cannot stop instantly.
  • Driver’s Stand Courtesy: Keep noise and complaining to a minimum. Stand still and do not lean out or block the line of sight for the drivers next to you.
